John Vettel (Musical
Director/Performer)
Singer/songwriter John Vettel was one half of the musical
duo Uncle John and Mikey.
The duo performed at day cares, preschools, and children’s
events in the Triangle throughout the 1990s. Ask him about his
new CD! Since the start of the new millennium, John has
been performing and teaching (music theory and guitar) to
children at area day cares and recently joined NRACT’s staff as
resident music teacher. John ventured into the world of "tech"
by assisting "Bob the light guy" for The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)
in the September 2007 joint production presented by the Idiots
and NRACT. John discovered he was an Idiot in 2000.
Katie
Stephens (Performer)
Katie started her improv career in the Wake County Public
School System. The improv bug bit her when she was a
member of the high school based troupe Teen Co. inspiring
her to continue her studies with ComedySportz of Raleigh, where she met
Matthew. Most of Katie’s improv career, however, was
international as she studied and performed with Second City in Toronto,
Canada. She appeared in NRACT’s production of Harold and Maude, and
has been seen on local television in a commercial for AM850
The Buzz. Katie discovered she was an Idiot in 2003.
Brian Piper
(Performer)
Brian came from Minnesota to Raleigh to be a graduate student
in the Operations Research program at North Carolina State
University, but first he had make a four year stop at Oberlin
College. During this layover, he
majored in mathematics and theater (which is easily the most
useful liberal arts major). He's done a lot of theater,
creative and technical, but the damage was done when he
discovered improv in Minnesota. Since then he has been in
Primitive Streak, a
long-form group from Oberlin College, and he interned with Stevie Ray's Improv Company
in Minneapolis. Brian discovered he was an Idiot in 2007.

Laura Parker
(Performer)
Until recently, Laura could only be found behind the scenes. From 1999 through 2007, she spent her days creating historic and fantasy costumes for Renaissance festival performers and patrons. Since then, she has branched into theatrical costuming - designing and creating the costumes for the NRACT production of Charlotte's Web. She is currently the only lawyer working as a draper and costume technician at NC State's University Theatre. Although she dabbled in improv in high school, Laura didn't start formal improv training until 2009 when she took a class taught by Raleigh's Village Idiots, and the rest is history. Laura discovered she was an Idiot in 2010.
Alexa
Ortiz (Performer)
Alexa discovered her love for improv while attending nursing school at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. It is there she became a member of the Tablespoon of Talent improv team for the next 3 years (a group sponsored out of the university's theater department). Upon graduating she moved to the Cary/Raleigh area in 2009 to save lives over at Wake Med and promptly showed up at the Idiots' doorstep to serve her time as a Half-Wit. When not healing people through the art of laughter and narcotics, Alexa also can occasionally be found showing off her stand-up comedy skills at local clubs and annoying her neighbors by playing her cello at all hours of the night. Alexa discovered she was an Idiot in 2011.
Appearing regularly (see our calendar for dates) at the North Raleigh Arts and Creative Theatre and irregularly around the Triangle.
